Food from vendors is the best way to heal in the game and provides a significant boost compared to other healing items. However, there is also an element of chance and not all food items heal equally. If you are lucky enough, you can get a roll that would heal a large amount.
The game also has an item that heals 1HP for every 3 kills that you make. Besides that, when you kill an enemy, they can drop small health orbs that can heal a small amount of health. The spring set that has 3 items is also a good source of healing in the game and %heal per stage clear. The spring set is random and if you manage to get just one that could be of lot of help.
If you are looking for better healing, you can also aim for Warrior Cauldrons or a Nuns Headdress. Finally, the best way to not heal but stay alive longer in the game is to invest in upgrading the Skul. Better Skuls are more powerful and durable to attacks. In a fight, they can survive longer.
