How to Perfor Guard Counter or Counterattack in Elden Ring
The game has many new mechanisms, a lot of which are improved from the previous Dark Souls game. Guard Counter is a completely new combat mechanic exclusive to Elden Ring. It lets players perform powerful counterattacks to their enemies’ moves. You can learn how to perform a Guard Counter and use it on your opponents in the middle of a battle as well.

This mechanism can easily break the stance of the enemy, and allows you to counterattack immediately after guarding an enemy attack. This is similar to Parrying, where the player can stagger the enemy to leave them vulnerable to a critical strike.
Guard counters, in addition to dealing damage, can easily break the enemy’s stance, and opens up an opportunity for a critical hit. It’s all about getting the timing right, and after a few tries, you’ll have it down. It’s an important technique to master as it saves your own health while damaging your enemy’s HP at the same time.
The buttons you should press for blocking the attack are L1 / LB. After doing so, use your critical hit by pressing R2 / RT. This will result in a successful Guard Counter.
