Defiant Keys are a new sort of seasonal item introduced to Destiny 2 by the aptly titled Season of Defiance. Unlike prior seasonal currencies, which could be obtained by doing almost anything, each Defiant Key is a unique consumable object that can only be obtained through specific methods.

How to get Defiant Keys in Destiny 2’s Season of Defiance

Spending a key at the conclusion of a Defiant Battleground action nets you some seasonal prizes, and you can even enhance the contents of the box by improving the War Table in the HELM. This allows you to obtain more Defiant Engrams, War Table reputation, or simply more gear. Here’s how to get Defiant Tokens in the new season of Destiny 2.

Forget about previous Destiny seasons’ Seraph Keycodes, Map Fragments, and Treasure Coordinates: Defiant Keys are the new method to access additional prizes at the conclusion of the yearly playlist action Defiant Battleground.

These boxes, like before, give you seasonal weapons, but they also have a chance to give you a red border variant of a seasonal firearm if you have a key, allowing you to extract a craft-able design when you gather enough.

All Destiny 2 Lightfall Season of Defiance Season Pass rewards

You can earn a Defiant Key by completing activities throughout the system, such as:

Lightfall missions, in Neomuna Crucible matches, the Terminal Overload activity, Gambit games, Activities on the Vanguard Ops playlist and Raids. As a prize for earning season reputation levels, you can also claim Defiant Keys from the War Table, which you obtain by performing Defiant Battleground tasks.

As a prize for achieving certain levels, there are some keys available on the paid season pass. As always, vendor improvements allow you to win more prizes and Defiant Keys. Unlocking the Queen’s Guards Arsenal upgrade from the War Table increases the chance of dropping a Defiant Key whenever you focus seasonal weapons or armour—useful if you’re doing one a week to get the craft-able weapons.
