Steam is a video game distribution service which has been developed by Valve. Since 2003, it has provided players with a storefront from which they can purchase games, have a community and play with their friends. In this guide, we will take you through the process of how to refund a game on Steam.
How to Refund a Game on Steam
Sometimes, you might not be happy with a game, and want to get a refund for it. If you have purchased a game that you couldn’t get to enjoy, you might want to look for an alternative option. However, there are some conditions that you will need to know if you want to get a refund for a game on Steam.

The first thing that you need to know are the two conditions under which Steam will allow you to return a game.
- If you have purchased the game within the last 14 days.
- If you have played the game for less than two hours.
These conditions are pretty strict, so you will need to check the exact time of purchase for the first one. As for the two-hour deadline, the offer will not be applicable anymore if you have played for a minute more than two hours according to the gameplay time counter on Steam.
As long as you fulfill both of these conditions, you should be able to return the game and get a refund. At the Steam help page, log into your account and when prompted what you need help with, select ‘A Purchase’. This will bring up all the games that are eligible for a refund on Steam. Click on the game that you want to return, and pick the reason that you are returning it for.
Fill up the request form for the refund. Make sure that you are providing a solid reason for why you want to return it, and submit the form. You can also check your email for confirmation. Wait for the request to be processed, and your money should be returned to you. Remember that you probably shouldn’t try playing the game at this point of time.
