In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction you will inadvertently come across the Sprawl, which is a black substance that coats various parts of the map. It is an environmental hazard that is self-repairing, and what’s worse, it can multiply on its own when it detects a player. There are major disadvantages in walking through it as players will be slowed down, and this could be overwhelming and prove to be fatal. Furthermore, enemies walking over it will receive a speed boost, and some can even teleport through it like the Smashers and Tormentors.
So, it is important that you learn how to destroy the Sprawl. This guide will take you through the methods to minimize damage and get rid of the Sprawl as quickly as possible.
How to Kill Sprawl in Rainbow Six Extraction
Most of the Sprawl comes from the nests scattered around the map, and you will be able to recognize them by their greyish black or dark green color. Killing an Archaean also causes Sprawl to drip down the floors and walls. The best way to avoid taking damage of 1HP per second is to not walk on the Sprawl whenever possible and take steps to destroy it.

The most straightforward and economical way to deal with Sprawl is to destroy the Archaean nests with melee attacks. While it might be difficult to approach the Nests directly due to the damaging effect of the Nests, it’s useful to remember the ranged options that you have. Aiming your gunfire at Sprawl will clear it, but ammo is precious in this game and should be rationed carefully. Some explosives will destroy it when thrown from a distance. Keep in mind that making noise will alert the nest and may increase the amount of Sprawl. It’s best to keep a low profile and remain undetected as far as possible.
If there are no enemies around, you can use well-placed shots to clear paths, however, if there is a lot of Sprawl we recommend using melee weapons. It also grows back over time, so take care not to spend too long in one location.
You will be able to use the React Laser once you reach React Milestone level 25 which requires some effort. This gun attachment is handy as it makes no sound, unlike bullets.
Sneaking up on an enemy or a Takedown is the best option as this will prevent them from dropping Sprawl on the floor or alert other creatures around them. Make sure to know the weakest points of your enemies. Check out our guides on how to take out Spikers and Rooters.
