The Ham Bat is a unique melee weapon in the wilderness survival game Don’t Starve due to its unlimited number of uses. It spoils in 10 days, and in the DLCs, it deals lower damage each day. On the first day of its creation it delivers a whopping 59.5 damage on any mob, almost as much as the Cutlass Supreme which deals 68 damage. After the eighth day, it becomes weaker than a regular Spear. It can be stored in an Ice Box for longevity. This weapon is simple to craft if you have access to a lot of pigs. With a pig farm, it becomes a renewable resource you can craft right in your base. Read our guide on how to obtain a Ham Bat of your own.
Crafting a Ham Bat in Don’t Starve
The Ham Bat requires 1 Pig Skin, 2 Twigs and 2 Meats to craft—and can be made with Spoiled Meat as well. It is found under the Fight Tab, and you need the Alchemy Engine to be able to prototype it. Here are the steps for crafting a Ham Bat.
- Collect 2 Twigs by harvesting them from Saplings or Spiky Trees and Bushes.
- Collect two Meats from killing various mobs such as Bunnymen, Pigs, Tallbirds and Beefalos. Most large mobs offer Meat, while smaller mobs such as Rabbits and Birds offer Morsels.
- For the Pig Skin, you can kill a Pig to get Meat as well. Another option is to wait for the Full Moon where the Pigs turn into Werepigs—and offer more Pig Skin as drops. You can also get Pig Skin from destroying Pig Houses and Pig Heads.
- Once you have all the items, ensure you have your Alchemy Engine built and open the Fight Tab near it.
- The option for Ham Bat will come up. Select it and your Ham Bat will be crafted.
As you have crafted a Ham Bat you can enjoy the maximum damage for 1 day in the DLCs. If this is your preferred method of fighting, it is recommended to start a pig farm and make one every five days to get the most use out of it.
