The upcoming RPG title Elden Ring has been created in collaboration with fantasy writer George R. R. Martin, and it releases on 25th February. It is a survival game that follows the player in their quest to restore the titular Elden Ring and ultimately become the Elden Lord. The game has numerous bosses and enemies that the player needs to defeat, but some of them are optional which lets you pick your battles. This guide will take you through the process of beating the Tree Sentinel in Elden Ring.
Kill Tree Sentinel in Elden Ring
You will encounter the Tree Sentinel in the field called Limgrave which is near a hill. It is a Field Boss, and fighting it is optional. This is the first optional boss you will encounter in the game, and acts more like training for the player. It is recommended to take on this boss as killing them provides you with some useful rewards.

This boss can be found by heading to Limgrave at the First Stem. Walk Northeast towards the Church of Elleh until you come across the Gatefront Ruins. The Tree Sentinel will be at a spot between these two landmarks.
Offensive Strategy
Enchant your weapons to give you an edge in battle, and focus on improving your stamina in preparation for this fight. You will need to position yourself close to the enemy as it is rooted to the ground and attack preemptively.
It is a good idea to always be on the opposite side of where they’re going to attack so watch out for its movements. Melee is a good option for this boss.
For spell attacks, note that the Sentinel has its own shield and attacking it during this time will not result in any damage, so save your energy. Hit the monster only when they don’t have the golden glow around them indicating the shield. The spell may also bounce back straight at you.
Defensive Strategy
The Sentinel will attack you faster when they’re at low health, and this is important to note if you’re using melee as combat. You will have to dodge them accurately so you don’t get hit. The monster will charge at you with its attacks of Axe Cleave, Axe Thrust and Charging Axe Swing which can be avoided if you time it right.
More powerful attacks like the Jump attacks will take down a lot of your health, but it is easy to tell when they’re coming. When the animation for the Jump attack begins and the Tree prepares to jump as a last resort to kill you, sprint away until they’re done.
