Genshin Impact Version 3.0 released the new region of Sumeru for all Travelers and with every new region comes new Archon Quests. Archon Quests are the primary storylines of the game and players have to mainly focus on these when they enter a new region or unlock a new Chapter. Only sometimes are these quests also accompanied by World Quests but for the most part, you can do these without doing other side quests.
Sumeru’s Archon Quests in Genshin Impact 3.0
Currently in Version 3.0 players can only do Chapter 3, Act I and Act II of the Sumeru Archon Quest. Each update is expected to release two such Acts with Version 3.2 finally finishing it off with Act VI. The Sumeru Archon quests are vastly different from what we’ve experienced so far with the other regions- Mondstadt, Liyue and Inazuma. To summarise, in Sumeru’s Archon quests, there’s a lot less combat, action or flashiness and a lot more conversation, tact and puzzle-solving.
Despite it sounding boring, the story is actually rich and lets you really connect with the characters involved. There’s a tapestry of emotions the Traveler and in relation- the player goes through as they play this quest. At the end of it, there’s a powerful emotional catharsis that almost makes you forget how long the Second Act is.
With all that in mind here are our tips for the first two Acts of the Sumeru Archon Quest for the best experience.
Act I
You can take your time with Act I but make sure to complete each of the parts of this quest in one go.
- Act I can be roughly divided into Gandharva Ville, Sumeru City and Port Ormos.
- Of these, Gandharva Ville will give you a difficult combat challenge in the Withering Zone so be sure to bring a dependable team with a dedicated healer. This is also perhaps the longest of the 3 parts.
- The Sumeru City part is perhaps the shortest of the three and contains mainly conversations.
- Port Ormos has only one main combat instance but it’s easy so you can make do with a casual team. This also has some puzzle-solving requirements so be sure to be awake and receptive for this one.
Act II
Act II is a long quest and it is where all the information collected in Act I all connects.
- We highly recommend you complete this entire Act in one go as it is one complete story.
- The entire quest takes about 3-3.5 hours so be sure to have a full charge on your devices and reserve that chunk of time for this quest.
- We also recommend you keep the Traveler in your party the entire time for a fully immersive experience.
- After a certain point in this quest, Travelers cannot change the in-game time and teleporting out to a different location breaks the immersion.
- Nahida’s questions or the Contemplation puzzles can be especially time-consuming if you weren’t paying attention but you can always keep choosing whatever you think is right and eventually you’ll get the right answers.
- This quest has only one instance of combat but it’s an easy fight so don’t worry about having strong teammates.
Sumeru’s Archon Quest will likely have 5 to 6 parts and we’re only getting the first one-third of the story in Version 3.0. It’s already been leaked and even tacitly confirmed that, unlike most regions whose primary Archon quests last for only two updates, Sumeru’s primary Archon quest will last for three and will thus come to an end in Version 3.2.
This is partly because the update durations have been shortened to 5 weeks instead of the usual 6 so players are getting less time for the quests per update. The main reason, however, is that Sumeru has tons of plot points and storylines to unpack and tie up.
