Fix Xbox Game Pass Error 0x87e00196 While Installing Game

Have you recently been trying to install a game through Xbox Game Pass, but it gives you an error with the code ‘0x87e00196’? This has been happening to many gamers recently, preventing them from installing anything from the Xbox Store. 

Thankfully, here we have the solutions to the problem, after which you should be able to install games normally through the Microsoft Store or Xbox app. Let’s follow a step-by-step procedure as it involves entering commands in Windows Powershell.

Fix Xbox Game Pass Error 0x87e00196 While Installing Game

The first step is reinstalling the ‘Gaming Services’ application on the PC. To do this, go to your taskbar and type the following phrase ‘Powershell.’ After this, you must see ‘Windows Powershell’ and ‘Windows Powershell ISE.’

Open ‘Windows Powershell’ (the non-ISE one) and enter the following command written below; you may copy and paste the exact line below. 

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

After copy-pasting the above command, press the Enter button. When it is done, you will get to enter commands again, and when that happens, enter the following command written below as well.

start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

Press Enter after copy-pasting the above command. It should look like this:

When you complete these commands, you will be taken to a page in the Store app where you can install Xbox Gaming Services again. Click on the ‘Get’ button to install the app. It should look like the image below:

You will get a prompt for ‘User Account Control’ where you have to click ‘Yes’ to authorize the installation. Once done, the app will download and install itself. Restart your PC and then attempt to download the game.
