Fix Windows 10 Activation Error 0x80041024

Even with all the bugs and errors, Windows 10 remains to be one of the most preferred operating system throughout the world. Although, Windows 7 still has a mass following people are upgrading their system to the latest Windows. The reason for this could be the lack of support or the lack of compatibility with all the new games released (if you are a gamer). Whatever the reason, the upgrade is free, but al lot of users who attempted to migrate to the new OS are facing the Windows 10 Activation Error 0x80041024.

So, why does this error occur? Can you actually upgrade the OS? And if you can what can you do about the error? We will answer all these questions by showing to how to fix the activation error in Windows 10.

But, before you proceed you need to have the product key of the earlier version of Windows. If you have it with you, proceed with the fix or you can download any free software that helps you pull the product key from the BIOS. A simple Google search will present you with a bunch of options. Once you have installed the software, extract the key and write it down.

Fix Windows 10 Activation Error 0x80041024

Let’s try to fix the activation error 0x80041024. It’s a two way process, first we will attempt to activate the Windows manually as automatic updates can fail at times. If that fails, we will try and repair Windows with SFC command.

Fix 1: Manually Activate Windows

For this process, you need to have the activation key at your disposal as we will need to insert it. Once you have the key, proceed.

  1. Press Windows Key + I to enter Settings
  2. Click on Update & Security
  3. Click on Change product key link under Update product key
  4. Enter the product key and select Next. Follow the on-screen instructions and the Windows should be activated.

Fix 2: Run the SFC Command

If the above process fails, there could be a problem with the file system like corruption. Hence, you must first repair the file system. Here are the steps.

  1. Press Windows + R and type cmd, hit Shift + Ctrl + Enter simultaneously (when prompted select yes)
  2. Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter (Do not abort the operation and wait for it to be 100% complete).

Once the process completes, restart the system and check if the Windows 10 Activation Error 0x80041024 is fixed. Try step 1 once more.
