Valorant has more error codes than any game we have played, maybe not more than Warzone, but still, the game has so many error codes that users keep stumbling across. We recently faced the Valorant error code VAN 81. When you attempt to launch the game, the error pops open and the only option is to quit the game. The error message reads, “VALORANT has encountered a connection error. Please relaunch the client to reconnect.” Needless to say, restarting the system or the game does not fix the issue. Here is what worked for us and some other solutions you can try.
How to Fix Valorant Error Code VAN-81
One of the main reasons the Valorant error code VAN-81 occurs is when the Vanguard does not start with the game. As the anti-cheat is crucial and the game won’t run without it running simultaneously, you may be seeing the error code. As such, the first solutions we suggest is to set the Vanguard startup type to automatic. Here are the steps you can follow.
Set Vanguard Startup Type to Automatic
- Press Windows Key + R to open the RUN dialogue box.
- Now, type services.msc and hit Enter.
- Locate ‘vgc’ in the list of services.
- Select ‘vgc,’ right-click and select Properties.
- Set the Startup Type to “Automatic” > click on Apply and then Ok
- Restart the system and try to launch Valorant.
The main reason, the VAN-81 error occurs is when the Vanguard has stopped working. You can check if it’s working from the Task Manager. Here is an alternate solution, but does the same thing as above.
- Press Windows key + X and select Task Manager from the list.
- Now, go to the Services tab and locate ‘vgc.’
- If the status of ‘vgc’ is stopped, right-click and select Start.
If ‘vgc’ is running, the problem is not with the Vanguard not working and you need to look elsewhere for the Valorant error code VAN-81.
Reinstall Vanguard to Fix Error Code VAN-81 in Valorant
If the above solutions have not worked, you may have to reinstall Vanguard. The process of uninstalling it is similar to any other program. Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Locate Vanguard in the list of programs and uninstall.
After uninstalling, restart the system and open Valorant. The Vanguard client should start downloading and installing automatically. Post the reinstall, the error should not reappear.
If the error still occurs and you are ready to take drastic steps, some users have reported fixing the Valorant error code VAN-81 by reinstalling the Windows. That’s all we have in this guide, if you have a better solution, let us know in the comments.
