Change game script
If you are running a combination of 12th Gen Intel CPU and Windows 10, the game can stutter and drop FPS. There are two ways to fix this issue, you can either update the OS to Windows 11 or you can enable a script file that will allow the CPU to prioritize how Total War Warhammer III works.
Open File Explorer and find the script files in the game. You can input the following address into the address bar.
• C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\scripts
• Windows Store / Gamepass: %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\GDK\scripts
• Epic Store: %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\EOS\scripts
Press Enter to open the file. Then right-click on the file screen and select the option for Text Document under New. Save the title as user.script.txt. Open this text file and add the following:
HYBRID_CPUS_TREAT_ALL_CORES_UNIFORMLY true;
number_of_threads 5;
Click Save. Run the game to fix the issue with Total War Warhammer III FPS and Stuttering.
Run Total War on DirectX11
There seem to be some issues with how the game functions under DX12, so if DX12 is your default, you will have to change it by going to the Steam Library and right-clicking on TW3, going to properties, and typing in –dx11 in the Launch field. Save Changes and restart your game.
Disable Razer Cortex and Citrix
Disabling all peripheral applications, especially Razer Cortex and Citrix, can drastically improve stuttering and FPS drops.
Disable TAA
Check your in-game graphics settings and disable TAA and have the game run in FXAA. TAA has been known to cause light stuttering in Total War
Installing the game in a folder with non-ASCII characters
There seems to be a booting problem with Total War if it is installed in a folder with non-ASCII characters. You can move the game to another folder that doesn’t use ASCII characters in it, then start the game properly.
Run the game directly from the .exe
Instead of running the game from the client, try to run it from its .exe file. This would somewhat help solve the FPS drop in Total War.
Disable Steam Overlay
Disabling Steam Overlay from Steam Settings might help ease the pressure off FPS drops in Total War 3.
Close Background Applications
Remove applications from your task manager that are taking up too much of your CPU power.
Update Software and Drivers
If your Windows updates are pending, as well as your Graphics Card drivers, you can check online on their official website to download the latest drivers.
Change Graphics Card settings
Go to your graphics card control panel and go to manage 3D settings. You can try to turn on or turn off Vertical Sync under Global Settings. You can also change the performance of the game by selecting Total War: Warhammer 3, going to Power Management, and setting the performance to Maximum.
Change Power Plan
Go to Windows Control Panel > Power Options > Create Power Plan > High Performance. This will give maximum priority to your CPU to play Total War: Warhammer 3.
Change In-Game settings
Change the graphics and video settings under game settings in Total War: Warhammer 3. Setting all the graphics elements to low or off will help restore the performance of the game.
Disable Full Screen
Disabling the Full-Screen Optimization can help with how the game runs. Find Total War: Warhammer 3’s .exe file and right-click on it, go to Properties, click on Compatibility, and disable the Full-Screen Optimization option.
Disable Firewall/Antivirus
You Firewall or Antivirus programs might be holding back Total War: Warhammer 3’s full potential. You can manually disable it, or check if the game is allowed in their list.
Delete Mods
If you have any mods installed, it would be best to uninstall/delete the mods, verify game files, then try to install them one by one.
Roll Back GPU Driver
Some players have mentioned that the current driver settings after the update can hinder FPS and cause memory leaks, so you can try to roll back to a previous version and try to use that.
Change game resolution
Changing the in-game resolution settings can help with FPS drops. Anything below 1080p seems to be the best setting to increase performance.
Change Affinity
This fix seems to distribute the load evenly across the cores. To do this, go to Task Manager > Processes > right click on the .exe file for Total War > Details > Set Affinity > Disable one CPU and All Processors > click OK. After the setting has taken place, go back and enable the one disabled CPU, but not the All Processors. Click OK again and restart your system for the effect to take place.
Verify Game Files
Verify your game files on Steam by going to Steam Library, right-clicking on the game, going to Properties, and selecting the Verify Game Files under Local Files. This will help fix any missing or corrupt files in Total War: Warhammer 3.
Overheating and Connectivity Issues
Check if your PC does not suffer from overheating and if your internet connection is in working condition.
Change Windows Gaming settings
Go to Windows Settings and click on Gaming. Go to Xbox Game Bar and turn it off. Also, turn on Game Mode to optimize how the game runs.
