Games stuttering, freezing, and lagging has been a constant struggle for gamers through a range of titles and on varied range of system. Even the best PCs can go through the problems if the settings are not set correctly. Rust is no exception, survival in the game becomes difficult when you have to constantly battle stuttering and lag. Fortunately, we have a variety of solutions that can help you resolve the Rust stuttering, lag, FPS drop, and freezing.
Fix Rust Stuttering, Lag, and Freezing
One of the first areas of concern when you are struggling with Rust stuttering, FPS drop, lag, and freezing is that your system meets the system requirements to play the game. Even though Rust is fairly old game, the system requirements to play it is fairly high. If you are playing the game on a PC that does not meet the specifications, it will most certainly cause performance problems. Here is the minimum system specifications to play Rust.
- CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 / AMD FX-9590 or better
- RAM: 8 GB
- OS: Windows 7 64bit
- Graphics Card: GTX 670 2GB / AMD R9 280 better.
- Disk Space: 10 GB
You should have a graphics card superior to the above mentioned series with at least 2GB memory. The same goes for the processor as well.
Reduce the in-game settings
If you are barely below the mentioned system specification, you may still be able to run the game but on low graphics settings. Stuttering can also occur when you are barely above the recommendation, but you are playing on the game on high settings. As such, we suggest that you tune down all the in-game graphics settings and increase each setting by a notch while monitoring the performance of the game.
Trying to run the game on high settings which could be stressing for your system will not just cause Rust to crash, stutter, lag, or freeze, but, it can also be damaging to the system. Rust is a demanding game and it can put strain on your system.
Reduce the Resolution & Texture
Reduce the resolution and textures you are currently playing on and you should start to see some boost in performance from reduced stutter and boost in FPS.
Play on full screen mode
As we have experienced with Rust and a number of other games, Windowed mode for some reason can cause Rust stutters; therefore, try playing the game on Fullscreen.
Change the servers
If your system is more than capable of running the game and you still encounter stuttering, lag, and FPS drop, the problem could be the servers you have chosen. Certain servers that are far from your location can cause the game to stutter and lag. By simply changing the server to the one close to your location can make the problem disappear.
Terminate all unnecessary programs
Finally, if nothing else has worked, it could be a third-party program that interfering with the process of the game and causing it to stutter or crash. As such, try to launch the game after a clean boot. Here are the steps you can follow.
- Press Windows Key + R and type msconfig, hit Enter
- Go to the Services tab
- Check Hide all Microsoft services
- Now, click Disable all
- Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager
- Disable one task at a time and restart the system.
Try launching the game, check if the Rust stuttering, lag, FPS drop, and freezing problems still occur. That’s all we have in this guide, we will update this post when we know more. Meanwhile, if you have a better solution feel free to share in the comments.
