Pokémon Unite is the latest title in the popular Pokémon franchise. It’s a free-to-play online, multiplayer game that’s out for Switch. Within a few days from release the game has amassed quite a lot of fan following and is turning out to be a hit. But, a pesky error is preventing some players from enjoying the game, the Pokémon Unite ‘Network error. Please check your internet connection.’ If you have encountered this error and it prevents you from playing the game, we have some solutions that can help you.
How to Fix Pokémon Network Error
Players encounter this error when they are at the title screen and needless to say, their internet connection is not the cause of the issue as the error message states. It can be frustrating to know that your internet is fine and the game tells you it’s not.
Usual solutions to resolve glitches such as rebooting the game do not seem to help in this case. Connectivity troubleshooting does not work either.
But, the Pokemon Network error is not the only problem with the game, there are other issues such as the login error. And it all seems to be caused due to the Wi-Fi. For some reason, the game does not function well with the Wi-Fi. Playing Pokemon Unite with the mobile internet allowed a lot of users to bypass both the network and login errors.
Now, you may wonder why does the game work with the phone internet and not the Wi-Fi. It’s mainly because a port is blocked by your ISP. Pokemon Unite is not the first game with this problem. There are several games that often require a port that’s blocked by the ISP.
To fix the Pokemon Network error permanently, we suggest that you get in touch with the ISP and enquire they have the port “10000” open. Opening the port will allow you to play the game without any issue using your home Wi-Fi.
How to check if the Correct Port is Not Open
If you want to know if the above is your problem or not, there is a way to do it. But, it first requires you to enable the Telnet tools on Windows. Here is how to do it.
- Connect your home Wi-Fi to your PC
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows feature on or off
- Scroll down and check mark Telnet Client, press OK
- Once you get the message “Windows completed the requested changes,” the Telnet Client is enabled.
- Press Windows Key + R and type pkgmgr /iu:”TelnetClient”, hit enter
- Press Windows Key + R, type cmd, and hit Enter
- Type telnet 101.32.104.187 10000 in Command Prompt and hit Enter.
If you get the message, “Connecting to 101.32.104.187 …. Could not open a connection to the host, on port 10000: Connected failed.” Then, you need to contact the ISP to open the port as it’s blocked and only it can fix the Pokemon Unite network error.
