After a long wait, Outriders is finally out for all platforms and the game has a lot of issues, but nothing like Cyberpunk 2077. Most of the problems with the game is server related, which should resolve in a few days. Besides server stability, there are some other problems as well such as the Outriders controller not working. Users are reporting that their controllers are not functioning ideally. There are a variety of problems that users are facing with the controller such as the right thumb stick registering as mouse, among others. How to Fix Outriders Controller Now Working

Outriders has released on various platforms. A lot of Epic Games Launcher users are completely unable to use their controller. Although, Steam users can connect their controllers with the game it’s not functioning ideally. Here are some things you can try.

Set Gamepad in Game’s Controller Settings

The main reason for the controller not working is the default controller configuration of the game. To fix the issue, go to Options Menu and change the default to Gamepad. For most users, this simple tweak should be able to resolve the controller problem with the game. But, if it does not, there are some other things you can try.

Change Settings from Steam Client

  1. Launch the Steam client and click on View, select Big Picture Mode (BPM)
  2. Go to Controller > Controller Settings > Enable your controller
  3. Go back to the BPM and select Library > Outriders > Manage game > Controller configuration > Browse Configs – Templates > select Gamepad.

Change Steam General Controller Settings

If the problem with the controller still occurs after trying the above steps, you can try rest of the solutions. Depending on the controller you are using whether the Xbox controller, Switch, or the Dualshock, you need to set the device on Steam. This can be done via the Controller Settings options. Here are the steps you need to follow.

  1. Launch Steam from the desktop shortcut
  2. Click Steam on the top-left corner and select Settings
  3. From the Setting menu, go to Controller
  4. Click on General Controller Settings
  5. Depending on the type of controller you wish to use, you can check PlayStation Configuration Support, Xbox Configuration Support, or the Generic Gamepad Configuration Support.
  6. Press Ok to save changes, exit from the Window and start the Outriders.

Chang the Steam Input Per-Game Settings

Here are the steps to change the Big Picture Mode in Steam.   

  1. Launch Steam from the desktop shortcut
  2. Click View on the top-left corner and select Big Picture Mode
  3. Click on Library. Click on Games under Browse and select Outriders
  4. Click on Manage Games with the Gear Icon under Your game
  5. From Steam Input, select Controller Options
  6. Click on the downward pointing arrow to expand the options for Chang the Steam Input Per-Game Settings, select Forced On and hit OK.
