Players have been waiting for Hogwarts Legacy ever since the announcement of a release date back in August last year. The game got delayed from its initial launch date, but we finally have the game and it’s amazing. Hogwarts Legacy is a game that is highly suitable to be played with a controller. As such, players will try and play the game with the PS4 DualShock, PS5 DuelSense, and Xbox controllers, or any other brand, but the issue with Hogwarts Legacy controller not working is causing frustration. Fortunately, there are a few effective solutions to resolve the problem.
Fix Hogwarts Legacy PS4, PS5, and Xbox Controllers Not Working on PC
If you have the game on Steam, there are a bunch of fixes that you can try to rectify the controller not working issue. For players on the Epic Games Store, sadly, you cannot do anything if the launcher does not detect the controller; however, even if you purchased the game on Epic, you can still play the game on Steam and take advantage of the superior controller support and hopefully resolve Hogwarts legacy controller not working issue on PC. Try each of the fixes listed below:
Disconnect Bluetooth Devices
Sometimes when you have one or more Bluetooth devices connected to the PC, it can cause issues with the controller especially when you are connecting over Bluetooth. Go to the Windows Control Panel > View Devices and check that all Bluetooth devices are disconnected.
Disable Mouse and Keyboard
Some of you may wonder how to launch the game after you have disabled the mouse and controller, but the PS5 controller is well configured and allows you to launch Steam and then launch the game without the use of keyboard and mouse. We have seen in some cases that having the mouse and keyboard connected to the system often causes the Hogwarts Legacy controller not working issue.
Uninstall Vjoy and Similar Software
In some cases, having these software installed on your system can prevent the game from launching. Vjoy has been known in the past to cause problem in games and resulted in the controller not working for players.
Configure your Controller on Steam
Go to Steam > Settings > Controller > General controller settings > check the box for the controller you want to use. You will have the options for all the controllers including Xbox, PS, Switch, and Generic. Once you have checked the box, go back and launch the game. If the game still fails to detect the controller, move to the next step.
Open Task Manager and Disable Other Controller Software
If you use multiple software such as the switch, Xbox, and PS5 installed on your system, the Steam client may be confused. Ensure that the software for other controller are not working in the background. Open the Task Manager and close any controller software other than the controller you want to use. Once that’s done, reboot the Steam client and attempt to launch the game.
Change the Steam Input Per-Game Settings
If Hogwarts Legacy controller is still not working, launch the Steam client > View > Big Picture Mode > Library > Games > Elden Ring > Manage Games > From Steam Input, select Controller Options > Force On the Chang the Steam Input Per-Game Settings > restart the Steam client.
Ensure the Controller Driver is updated
It’s possible that the issue could also be due to an outdated controller software. If you have been running the same software for a long time, go to the manufacturers website and download the latest version of the controller software
Install DS4Windows for PS5 Controllers
If you are using a PlayStation controller, you can easily get it to work with any game by using a third-party software – DS4Windows. Here is how to get the software to work for you the right way.
- Enable your PlayStation controller on your PC. Then, you need to download and install the DS4 Windows application. A simple Google search is enough to find the software.
- Open the Settings in DS4Windows and check the box – “Hide DS4 Controller”
- Now, connect the controller to the PC. You should see the light blinking
- Next, go to the Device Manager in Windows and search for “Human Interface Device”
- Search “HID-compliant game controller”
- Plug out your controller and plug it back in
- Then, “HID-compliant game controller” will say it is disabled, click on Enable
- DS4Windows will now show up on your device. Then, launch Elden Ring. Hold down “Alt” and press “TAB” to switch to the DS4Windows window
- Remove your check from the box “Hide DS4 Controller”. If it doesn’t work then tab again in that window and enable the box again. Once done, do repeat all of these steps and it’s done. It may show you the Xbox Buttons but the controller will start working fine.
That’s all we have in this guide. Hope the Hogwarts Legacy controller not working issue is fixed after trying the above fixes. If you have a fix we did not cover share them in the comments section.
