Call of Duty has to be named the most bugged game of the year. Ever since its launch thousands of players have been plagued by its deviation errors, audio bugs or other errors and the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Warzone “Update requires restart” is another error. The problem occurs in PS4 and Xbox One systems where players are caught in an update loop.
Activation says they are working on a fix, so the problem might be resolved in the next patch. However, the fact remains, you are unable to play the game. In this post, we will share some solutions that can potentially fix this problem whether you’re on Xbox One or PS4 and get you back in the otherwise awesome game.
It is also suggested by Activation that a large number of users reported the problem to be resolved after clearing the cache of the console. We think the cache files on your system might be corrupted that’s causing the update loop. Hence, the foremost fix you should attempt to resolve the error is perform a cache cleanup. However, you may have to clear cache multiple times between attempts to load the game. So, don’t give up in one try.
Fix 1: Clear Cache on PS4 to Eliminate COD Update Loop
There are two ways to delete the cache from the Xbox and reset the memory.
Manual Reset
- Press the power button on the Xbox until the system powers down completely.
- Detach the power cord from the Xbox located at the back. Repeatedly press and hold the power button on the Xbox to drain the power. This clears the cache and formats the memory of the Xbox.
- Connect the power cord and wait for the Xbox to switch on, wait until the white light turns orange.
- At this point, turn the Xbox on as you would normally and open the game to see if you still face the Modern Warfare Warzone “Update requires restart” error.
Resetting Cache through Settings
- Navigate to the Xbox settings > Network > Advanced Settings.
- Go to Alternate Mac Address and select Clear option.
- Xbox will prompt the user if they want to continue. Give your command as affirmative and the Xbox will restart clearing the cache. Once done, open the game to check if you still encounter the error.
Fix 2: Hard Reset PlayStation
Like Xbox, there is no option to clear the cache in PlayStation; however, hard resetting the PlayStation performs the same function. PlayStation users try this method to fix the restart loop error.
- Completely shut down the PlayStation.
- Remove the power cord from the back and let the PlayStation sit for a few minutes until all processes are completely shut down.
- Put the power cord back to its place and start the PlayStation normally.
If the above two fixes have failed to resolve the error, even after repeated attempts, you can try these other solutions.
Fix 3: Completely Uninstall and Reinstall the Game
An inconvenient solution given the huge game size, but if the above fixes didn’t work for you, your best bet is to uninstall Call of Duty completely and reinstall it from scratch. This is a universal fix that has worked for a lot of users for a variety or errors.
Fix 4: Scan and Repair with Battle.net Desktop Client
The Battle.net desktop client is a useful resource to fix minor problems with the game and often it’s the minor fix that works. So, let’s utilize the Scan and Repair feature of the Battle.net client. Here is how you can do it.
- Open the Battle.net client using the desktop shortcut.
- Open the game COD MW by clicking on the icon.
- Click Options > Scan and Repair > Start Scan.
Wait for the process to complete and check if the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Warzone “Update requires restart” error is still visible or not.
