You will come across the Erdtree Burial Watchdog in various locations, but usually, they will lurk in different catacombs. Each Watchdog from different catacombs ends up dropping different items. This is an optional boss, but the rewards are worth it. Here are some ways to tackle them.
- You can summon an ally or Spirit Ash to help you, like the Kaiden Sellsword Ashes
- Most of the Watchdogs deal fire damage and use their sword to slam them down on the ground. One Watchdog can use magic attacks. But the way to defeat them remains the same
- Your best bet would be to attack it from behind or on the sides, but be wary of taking advantage of it here, as it can turn around and do a quick 180 and slam you with its tail
- Blocking and parrying will not stop its attacks, so it is best to dodge or run away
- Any weapon or spell that can inflict bleed will make quick work of the Watchdog
- It is quite rigid in its attacks so you will be able to predict each head turn or sword swing coming your way.
- For spellcasters, using Beast Claw and Glintstone Stars will help you defeat it from a distance.
- Its primary mode of attack is using the sword to either thrust or slam it. It takes a while to bring the full effect of the sword onto you, during which time you can dodge and try to get behind him
- Time your dodge accordingly to when it pulls its head back to spew fire
- If you see it start to stand up and bring its sword up, time your dodge to attack it after it swings its sword down. It takes a while for it to regain composure, so you can use this window to put in a few jabs.
- It will also start spinning around with the sword, and you will have to dodge it quickly
- If you are dealing with the magic casting watchdog, watch out for its electric balls. You can notice this when it pulls its head back, during which time you should dodge or hide.
Once they are dealt with, you can get various drops. Each watchdog drops different Spirit Ashes, and one of them drops a Bell Bearing. You will also get a handful of Runes from each defeat.
