The newest generation of EK-Quantum Velocity2 water blocks is now available from EK, a major producer of computer cooling solutions. These AMD AM5 socket-specific water blocks and Ryzen 7000-series CPUs are planned for release shortly. The AM5 water block, like its AM4 predecessor, is EK-Matrix7 compatible, which means that it was created by the specification wherein the product’s height and port distance are handled in 7mm increments. The product uses a modified Velocity2 cooling engine designed for Ryzen 7000-series CPUs to provide the highest cooling performance and ideal coolant flow. The AM5 motherboards now include an integrated CPU socket backplate with #UNC 6-32 threads, necessitating a new mounting mechanism, despite the new AM5 socket’s mounting hole pattern remaining 54 x 90mm.
Ease of Installation
The installation method for the redesigned, patent-pending EK-ExactMount mounting mechanism is even more straightforward. The final result is an even more user-friendly and “invisible” mounting mechanism because the whole mounting system is housed inside the water block, making it a genuine one-piece product. The spring-loaded Torx screws are built within the water block and are inserted into the motherboard’s stock backplate by rotating them counterclockwise. The backplate is factory placed on the motherboard.
Safety Features
The integrated mounting screws have a hard-stop design in their engineering. This indicates that the block is precisely placed and tensioned after the screws reach the end of the thread. Doing this eliminates the danger of overtightening the water block and harming your motherboard or CPU.
Variations
There are five variations of the AM5 version designed for Ryzen desktop CPUs:
A CNC-machined cast acrylic top is included on the EK-QuantumVelocity2 D-RGB – AM5 Nickel + Plexi.
EK-QuantumVelocity2 D-RGB – AM5 Nickel + Acetal, with a robust, black POM acetal that has been CNC-machined
The brass top of the EK-QuantumVelocity2 D-RGB – AM5 Nickel + Satin Titanium display was CNC-machined to a satin silver finish.
EK-QuantumVelocity2 D-RGB – AM5 Full Nickel has a nickel-plated CNC-machined brass top.
EK-QuantumVelocity2 D-RGB – AM5 Nickel + Gold – the same as Full Nickel and re-plated with real gold (not phony 3 GN)
The performance of the various product versions is unaffected by these modifications because they are only centered on looks. The cold plate is made from the purest electrolytic copper, which is 99.99% pure. The copper is then carefully machined to ensure the best possible contact and heat transmission.
Compatibility
Only the AMD AM5 socket and Ryzen 7000-Series desktop CPUs are compatible with the new EK-Quantum Velocity2 series CPU water blocks, which are socket-specific.
When utilizing the stock backplate, the water blocks are also compatible with AMD AM4 motherboards, although the hard-stop mechanism might not function correctly owing to the different types of backplates. For motherboards with an AM4 socket, AM4 Velocity2 is advised, and for those with an AM5 socket, AM5 Velocity2.
Led Lighting Integration
There are 17 D-RGB LEDs on EK-Quantum Velocity2 D-RGB – AM5 CPU water blocks. Clear acrylic-topped models are fully illuminated, whereas solid-top models feature clever light beams running across them. They work with all widely used addressable RGB sync technology from all significant motherboard producers. The +5V marking on the addressable RGB header lines up with the arrow marking on the 3-pin D-RGB LED connection.
