The resurgence of Axie Classic has taken the gaming world by storm, boasting an impressive 150,000 monthly active users (MAU) since its triumphant return. The Grand Tournament, a cornerstone of the Axie Classic experience, witnessed a staggering 70,000 competitors battling for the coveted Mystic axie.
As the player base continues to grow, the developers have responded with the first balancing update in two years, addressing key mechanics and card dynamics. This article delves into the significant changes introduced in the Axie Classic Balancing Patch on December 29, 2023.
Axie Classic Balancing Patch 29 December
In the Axie Classic Balancing Patch (December 29, 2023), all classes receive a 40-point Base HP boost, injecting strategic depth. Axies now consistently target Top Lane opponents in split scenarios, enhancing predictability. Critical Hit rates are revamped for more randomness and consistency. Here are all the patch notes:
- The return of Axie Classic has been triumphant: we’ve seen over 150K MAU while the Grand Tournament welcomed 70,000 total competitors. Axie Classic. Is. BACK!
- We’ve shipped a few balancing updates — the first in two years. Base HP will increase by 40, axies will target the Top Lane opponent when facing split targets, Critical Hits are now more consistent
- The next Grand Tournament starts January 11 and you will need Gold to participate. Start stacking!
The day was November 22nd, 2023. It was a Wednesday. Jiho stood on stage at the YGG Web3 Games Summit in the Philippines and said four words that dropped tens of thousands of Lunacian jaws to the floor: Axie Classic. Is. BACK!
Since then, we’ve seen over 150K monthly active users (MAU) play Axie Classic. Classic’s Grand Tournament even had over 70,000 players battle it out for a Mystic axie. With great MAU comes great responsibility — and that’s why we’re rolling out a balancing patch for Axie Classic after today’s maintenance! Here’s what’s inside:
Base HP Increase
All classes will receive a 40 point increase to their base HP. This shakes up the early game of a battle, which gives more breathing room for axies and more skill expression to players.
Center Lane Targeting
Starting today, axies will always target their Top Lane opponent when facing split targets on the Top and Bottom Lanes. In the past, axies had a 50% chance of targeting their top or bottom opponents. This has now changed. However, axies on the Top and Bottom will still prioritize the closest target and on the same lane.
Consistent Critical Hit Rates
We’ve made the Critical Hit rate more random, and therefore more consistent. Over the past month, players had seen extreme high and low rolls exert outsized influence on a match’s outcome. The new pseudo-random distribution of Critical Hits will keep this mechanic exciting and unpredictable, while avoiding the kinds of situations that made players grumble with frustration. Consider this a more balanced approach to the Critical Hit rate.
In this balancing patch, we’ve also taken steps to realign Axie Classic with its original designs. This allows us to increase the number of viable cards in the meta. We’ve also balanced some card stats to make sure similar cards are closer in value
